Earlier today I wrote a post on a group called Zambia Entrepreneurship Corner. I am a constant member of the group and so many people asking questions like “I have K2,000 or K500 or K1,000 (it’s always a certain amount of money), what business can I do?”. Many would quickly jump on the posts and give ideas and advice.

So I decided to post something different, something that would require people to think outside the box. I wrote, “I have no money, what business can I start?” My friends it was wild, the comments I received.

We have grown up in a society where we rely on working for others and never take the initiative to start our own business. Thinking like money is the only thing that can make you start a business. Of course yes, but there are other businesses you can start without money and can become rich.

There is power in marketing. Marketing, according to Google, is the action or business of promoting and selling products or services. Either for your business or on behalf of another business. You can approach companies and business owners, ask them if you can promote their products and services to people and getting a commission from every successful business transaction. With marketing you’re limitless, you don’t need inventory or premises, just good communication and persuasion skills.

Sales Agency

Sales, like marketing, you don’t really have personal and premises. In this case, businesses or companies trust you enough by giving you their products to sell, door by door, and getting either commission or a markup you put on the price of the products. For example, a business owner gives you a phone to sell on their behalf and they say I only need K700 for this phone, you can sell it at any amount you want but just give me my K700 after the sale.

Courier Company

With the increase of restrictions amidst the pandemic of the coronavirus, most people are staying and ordering things online. From buying vegetables for them at the market, to delivering groceries for them from the supermarkets, you can start a business where you’re doing the logistics for them while they sit in the comfort of their homes. Deliver things for them on their doorstep, whether on foot, bike or car and charging a small fee.

Computer Repair and Consultancy

If have you an idea of computers or just have keen interest in computers. Start looking for people with computers, a lot of them have a problem or two with their computers. Its either their computer is slow, it has an outdated antivirus or they are stuck somewhere and need advice. Give them advice, install the software the computer needs, update their antivirus and charge them a small fee.
